There is a Netflix film that I want to show for my class. I have a personal Netflix subscription. Am I able to show the Netflix film?

Answer

While faculty have a fair use claim to show Netflix films in their class using their personal Netflix subscription, Netflix and their users, enter into a license agreement that allows Netflix to provide access to content.

Netflix does permit educational screening of films that are Netflix only content. Here is a link to Netflix only material: https://media.netflix.com/en/only-on-netflix#/new?page=1

Therefore, you can show a Netflix only content if you meet the following criteria:
  • You have a personal subscription and are using the Netflix interface.
  • Will be showing it for educational/community building purposes.
  • Are showing it once a semester.
