How do I find full-text scholarly articles on my topic?

Answer

Scholarly material is generally available in subject-specific databases that include journal articles, books and book chapters, and conference proceedings published in related disciplines. Click Databases on the Rider University Library homepage. Click on the “Subjects” drop down menu to choose the subject you are researching.  Choose a database and search for scholarly articles within that database. Scholarly articles are designated by either “peer-reviewed” or as an icon of “academic journal.” You can limit either by “peer-reviewed” or “academic journal” under the left-hand filters.

One Search contains most of the Library's separately listed scholarly databases. If desired, you can limit by discipline to search for subject-related material and/or “peer reviewed” before a search by using the “Search Options” located below the search boxes. After you search, you can select the limits of “peer-reviewed” or “academic journals” under “Refine Results” on the left-hand filters.

Scholarly databases contain both citations only and citations with the full text attached (the item itself), depending on the Library's subscriptions. Full text is indicated by the presence of a PDF, HTML text, or links into other databases, such as the “Get it @ Rider Library” link. If there is no full text available, we can get the article for you through Interlibrary Loan.
