I have a Mac and Office 2016 and I am having problems getting Refworks Write N Cite. What do you advise?

This is a known issue.  The recommended solution is to download Write N Cite from Microsoft Office Store located at: https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/WA104380122?src=office
