Accessibility

Answer

One librarian is assigned special liaison duties with the Student Accessibility and Support Services (SASS) office each year to oversee library services for physically challenged students. Students with disabilities can use the handicapped ramp to access the library building. They can also apply for the elevator key to the Libraries at the SASS office and then check out the elevator key at the Circulation Desk. All librarians are responsible for the following services for physically challenged students: 1. Opening the Amy Silvers Study Room if necessary (key at Circulation Desk). Circulation Staff may also open the room for students. The Amy Silvers Study Room is intended for the sole use of physically challenged students. It is not intended to be used as a regular study room.

2. Assisting physically challenged students in gathering research materials, preferably by appointment. Staff and librarians will assist physically challenged students in the retrieval of materials from the shelves and scanning when necessary.
