Librarian-Faculty Partnerships

Answer

Librarians, in partnership with teaching faculty, help students identify a need for information and effectively locate, evaluate, and share that information. The RIP emphasizes research processes, navigating the Libraries’ website and resources, and discipline-specific research skills. RIP activities include course-integrated research instruction sessions, follow-up instructions, individual instructions, tours, orientations, and asynchronous learning materials (e.g., research guides, lecture captures, tutorials). The Rider University Libraries assigns instruction sessions to librarians based on distributed workload responsibilities.

1. Research instruction is assignment-specific, and faculty are expected to share the assignment and prepare the students for the assignment prior to the session. 2. Faculty members are required to attend the research instruction session(s); the participation and presence of faculty members reinforce the instruction’s importance and relevance. 3. Faculty should schedule research instruction at least a week in advance with a Research Instruction Program Co-Coordinator or the requested instruction librarian, or through the online instruction request form.
