Cataloging of Materials - Standards
Answer
Current descriptive cataloging and metadata standards are followed for all cataloging in
order to conform with OCLC practices and requirements and to maximize discovery of
library resources within multiple discovery systems based on these standards. As part of
our ongoing commitment to national cooperative cataloging efforts, University Libraries
contributes original records to OCLC’s WorldCat and also enhances records already in
the database—e.g., by upgrading minimal-level records or adding contents notes when
none are present. Older records in WorldCat and in the Libraries’ online catalog are not
otherwise routinely updated to current standards unless necessary for access and
discovery, and to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
