Cataloging of Materials-Classification

Answer

The collection is shelved by Library of Congress classification, with the exceptions based on departmental decision and past practice for special collections (e.g. the Children’s and Youth Collection, periodicals, the Performance Collection, or alternative formats). Call number assignment is left to the discretion of the individual cataloger based on an examination of how materials already in the collection had been cataloged within a particular classification.
